DEAF SLAM: CONTEMPORARY EXPRESSION OF BRAZILIAN LITERATURE?
Keywords:
Deaf Literature. Contemporary Brazilian Literature. Deaf slam.Abstract
This article aims to make critical considerations about the literary expression of
Brazilian deaf communities, users of the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), in the light of the diversity
poetics embodied by the expression of the contemporary. Understanding Libras as a viso-spatial
linguistic system that in its structure encompasses corporeality as a linguistic property sine qua non
property, we defend, in agreement with theoretical considerations expressed by Ramos (2020), that
deaf literature, in its expression, is naturally performative. In this sense, based on the exploration of
the slam “Empathy: a small manual of deaf culture”, by the group Slam do Corpo, we seek, through
this article, to answer the question that entitles it, to situate such literatures as resistance of a minority
linguistic community, as well as an expression of contemporary Brazilian literature.
